Noel Gallagher from Oasis, Assaulted

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

It’s sad to see Noel being assaulted on stage. It’s amazing how the offender got on stage in the first place. I hope no one was hurt in this incident.

I’m really happy that eScala has made it on the big stage even though they didn’t win Britain’s Got Talent 2008! This group has been able to make classical music appeal to non-traditional listeners.

Vote Gold!

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

I met some really amazing people during my candidacy and tenure as Student Body President and Board of Trustee member at Florida Atlantic University.

The theme of “Unity Through Our Diversity” not only gave credence to our mission, but also reflected on the diversity of the students that were members of the team, our administration, and those that supported our cause.

Our team accomplished goals and objectives via a collaboration and group effort that placed the interests and needs of students first. I was proud to be a part of such an effort and I thank all those involved in making our administration a capable one.

FAU Operational Audit 2005

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

This comment regards the 2005 Operational Audit of Florida Atlantic University.
At the time, I was serving as Student Body President and Board of Trustee Member.

An example of a Recommendation would be Finding No. 3: Tangible Personal Property that states:

“Recommendation: The University should
ensure that property records are periodically
reconciled to the general ledger; an annual
physical inventory is performed; and property
tags are timely issued and affixed to property
items. Also, procedures should be enhanced to
provide adequate separation of duties.”

FAU Strategic Plan 2006-2013

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

I was honored to be a part of the University’s Strategic Planning Committee that devised a number of goals. I have provided these goals below that are stipulated in the link below:

1. Providing Increased Access to Higher Education
2. Meeting Statewide Professional and Workforce Needs
3. Building World-Class Academic Programs and Research Capacity
4. Meeting Community Needs and Fulfilling Unique Institutional Responsibilities
5. Building a State-of-the-Art Information Technology Environment
6. Enhancing the Physical Environment
7. Increasing the University’s Visibility

The Committee meetings were hard work, but well worth it! My role was to represent the student’s interests. An example of a work in progress relating to Goal 6, which was to enhance the physical environment of the University, was that Student Government set aside funds to build a Recreation/Wellness Center for students.

The following quote from the Strategic Plan falls in line with the future plans for student services: “The future facilities needs for each campus will be projected, identified and met based on the strategic goals.”

The Minority Presidents

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

This was an article written about Florida’s diverse Student Body Presidents. I applaud the author, Ron Matus, for writing such an article and recognizing that diverse students were elected by the student population to be their official representation to their respective University’s administrations and the State of Florida.

The author stated:

Florida’s hodgepodge of cultures puts it ahead of the national curve. Here, the melting pot is so hot it can be hard to figure out which racial or ethnic box a student leader belongs in.

At Florida Atlantic University, student body president Alvira Khan is French and British by nationality. Her father is from England; her mother, from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
Khan’s definition for herself: “world citizen.”
